RSS - or what is now known as "Really Simple Syndication" - is a file format that is incorporated by Internet users in their websites to allow for 'web syndication', making their web content available in a format that can be universally understood by other people.

In essence, RSS is a 'mini database' that contains headlines and descriptions (a summary or a line or two of the full article) of your web content, including hyperlinks that enable users to link back to the full article of their choice.

RSS websites - that is, websites that contain RSS 'feeds' (articles or postings) - typically have colorful graphics to indicate to users that the specific web content is available through RSS feeds. These graphics are usually depicted by orange rectangles that are usually marked with 'RSS' or 'XML'.

With its increased popularity, RSS is now being adopted and used by more website owners or publishers. Today, numerous resources are now available that aid Internet surfers (and even beginners as well) on how to set up and use RSS.

Setting up RSS feeds and adding them to your website can be a simple process that does not involve a lot of time or any money. Listed below are some simple and basic steps that you might want to follow:

1. Have your web content and/or news in an RSS feed format, such as XML (appropriate and 'ready-made' feeds are also available from other sources).

2. Click the orange graphic - this is the RSS feed icon. Take note of the URL of the RSS feed; this will be displayed in the address bar (for Internet Explorer).

3. Input the feed URL on your RSS feed creation program.

4. Click on the "Generate Feed" button. This will generate the RSS code for your web content.

5. Enter the RSS code in the appropriate place on your own website.

Having created an RSS feed for your website, next comes the task of publishing your web content and news and having them displayed on other sites and headline viewers. This is made possible with the use of RSS readers or aggregators.

RSS readers or news aggregators are used to view particular web contents. RSS readers contain the collection of 'feeds' or RSS files from content providers, and they are generally classified into 3 types:

·Desktop RSS readers - also known as standalone desktop application, they generally 'run' in the background and are similar to an e-mail client, collecting the feeds and refreshing items automatically as they are updated.

·Web-based aggregators - these are online services that enable users to personalize web pages, refreshing them each time the page is accessed or each time a person logs in to the service.

·Plug-in aggregators/readers - these make use of either web browsers or e-mail clients, which allow users to view RSS feeds while inside an existing program.

Anywhere you turn today you'll find websites shouting at you about the millions you can make from Google's Adsense, Yahoo Publisher Network, or some other PPC program. Self proclaimed Guru's with sales pages spouting riches beyond your wildest dreams if you'll only shell out $147 for their ‘secret'.

But is there really a ‘secret' method to making a living online? Not if you take a look at what the serious earners are doing. I'm not talking about the above mentioned, so called ‘Gurus', I'm talking about the big boys and girls. Men and Women that are way too busy to tell you how they are making a fortune. What are they busy doing you might ask? They're building websites. Lots of them. Quietly, in the background, they are making millions.

So before you bill that $147 to the old Mastercard, let's talk about a plan that might actually work for you.

So where to begin? Why at the beginning of course. Let's assume that you're totally new to the whole concept of an online business. Let's build your Adsense or other PPC website from scratch.

1. Before you do anything, you must decide on what KIND of website you'd like to have. Is it going to be an informational site? Something fun, like a joke site? Or maybe centered around a hobby or business you have offline? Whatever you decide on, please, make it something you're interested in. If you build a site strictly because someone told you that a site centered around ‘web hosting' will make you the most money, you'll be very disappointed in the long run. The reason is simple. Do you know anything about ‘web hosting'? Does it interest you enough to do any kind of research on it? If not then you're going to have one heck of a tough time when it comes to actually promoting your site and getting surfers to it. Yes, it can be done, but it's a lot easier if you pick something you're at least familiar with.

2. A domain name. Your WWW address on the web. There are many different schools of thought when it comes to domain names, so I won't go into it in this article. Let's just say that you should pick a domain that you like, that at least in some way pertains to your topic. Don't register Bizoooooogle.com and plan on making it into an empire. Register something that reflects the topic of your website.

3. A website. Yes, the actual website must exist. So here's where some work or some money might come into play. If you have the technical skills, then obviously, build it yourself. If you don't, then you're going to have to hire someone to build it for you.

But if you want to be successful with Adsense or Yahoo Publisher, then just ANY website won't do. Your going to have to do several things. The main focus is that the website must be targeted and optimized for your target. If you're building a site focused on ‘Caribbean Travel' then you really don't want information on the local Motel 6. When building your website, stay on target, stay on the topic, it will pay off in the long run.

So now. Your website is done. Online. Looks great. When do the millions of dollars start rolling in? I know this sounds crazy, but I get asked questions like this every day. People just assume that as soon as their new website is up, the work is done. But I must tell you, at this point it hasn't even started. Let me break this to you gently…. All your shiny new website is… drum roll please…. It's an AD. Yes, it's simply a big advertisement, put up to attract visitors who in turn click your Adsense links, or Yahoo Publisher links, or some other PPC. The point is this. Your website is worth nothing if you choose not to PROMOTE your website/ad. Contrary to what many of the ‘Gurus' say, you cannot just sit back and wait for that number one listing in Google to come thru. You MUST promote.

There are hundreds and thousands of ways to get traffic to your adsense websites or your blogs but one of the best ways to get traffic is to use articles which is also a free method, when writing an article on your chosen topic you get to leave a by-line at the bottom with a link back to your chosen website.

The by-line is also known as a signature or sig-line, when writing out your by-line you need to make sure that it has a catchy headline and a good description as once people have finished reading your article they will see the sig-line at the bottom and then read your headline & description and then possibly click through to your website this is known as targeted traffic.

Now when this happens the by-line link in your article becomes what is known to the search engines as a "back link" the more "back links" you have the higher you rank in the search engines which is another good reason to write articles and distribute them.

Just by submitting your article to the above three can bring you in an extra 50-200 targeted visitors per month and more depending on the quality of the article.
If you can write one to two articles per week then you can be looking at receiving 200-1000 visitors to your adsense websites per month. The more articles you write the more traffic you will receive.

Also just like to mention that articles do not have to be very long they can be anything from 300 words to 1000 words most articles are about 450 - 700 words long, the reason is that you keep your articles short so that once the visitor has read your article they get the information within a few minutes and then they will possibly visit your website to find out more on their chosen topic or to discover more about your website and even you.

Once the visitors have arrived at your website they will be more likely to click on your adsense ads and your affiliate programs which will bring home the money.
